Bike safety still important in winter months

Many Muncie residents commute to work on their bikes year-round, but during the winter months it can be more dangerous.
Kirk's Bike Shop is currently offering winter tune-ups at a lower price. So, it's the perfect time to get your bike repaired if you don't commute in the winter. However, while some people put their bikes away during the colder months, others still find themselves on the roads.
"You can use like studded tires," said Jason Allardt, Kirk's Bike Shop owner. "They would definitely help for the kind of snow we've been having this winter. Or at least some kind of knobby tire on your bike something that will have a little bit more aggressive tread for snow and ice and that kind of thing."
Gear Junkie's Web site lists some other ways to ride safe during the winter:
- Follow the plow
- Ride straight
- Watch out
- Choose the right ride
- Cold and clean
- Go Studs
- Protect your core
- Heads up
- Warm hands and feet
- Use public transit
